Anarchy and Democracy

(Setting: a sanitarium in the heart of Washington, D.C.)

"So, which will it be today? A flogging with a cat-of-nine tails or The Rack? Let us be democratic about this...each one of you will have a vote and will have your desire properly represented."

Is it really democracy when you are only able to vote between which of two bullies is going to rape you? Only widespread force can overthrow this system but widespread force is illegal and the armies and "law enforcement" are loyal to the masters, not the peasants. So the peasants must rise up violently to exact change, but rising up violently is illegal and would meet swift resistance from the masters.

Two wings of the business party, forever offering rich candidates to represent, support, and increase the power of the business. Freedom to not participate in business is not a political option - it isn't profitable. Refusal to participate in the political process means that one is forced to suffer under the business agenda. How can the direction be changed? It can't as long as the focus remains a debate between which business approach to follow. The peasants make themselves proud with dogmas in favor of one of the two business approaches and never question the business approach itself.

Democracy is a convenient scam for power: pit all the aspects of society against each other, so that instead of unison there is competition and discord. This kind of society needs Evil and Taboos to create consensus, and what would be more apt at such than giving them a champion of the ordinary man and their freedom, the Golden Boy of Western heritage, Democracy?

Most people are simple-minded and linear-thinking: if it's good for their immediate well-being at the expense of vanishing forests, biodiversity, increasing pollution, and welfare diseases, then why the heck no? Big business loves democracy, because most of the politicians can be persuaded, thus the choice in democracy is effectively a choice between hamburgers: double cheese vs. onion-bacon extra.

People will stay happy because of the illusion of freedom: at least they were the masters of their lives instead of willing puppets of clandestine monetary masters, regardless of bulging bellies and looming Atherosclerosis.
